I’m a painter working between California and London. I have a background in science with degrees from UC Berkeley and Stanford University. I studied painting in London at Royal College of Art and now mix these disciplines in my daily practice. My work is about transformation and transcendence which means I utilize a free and frenetic approach to the canvas. In this way I’m able to tap into a hidden plane where I become a conduit to ideas, symbols, and emotions.
In my practice I focus my entire being on a grand feeling, something as big as the universe, eternity, humanity, and mortality. I apply paint to the canvas and begin dredging, mining, and digging at the surface until forms appear. This process allows the painting to surprise and guide instead of being guided. By working in this way, I’m able to tap into something from deep within; something on the visceral level that will be reflected to the viewer allowing them to share this experience.
